Tours to Turquoise Lake

Legend has it that if ever the sacred Turquoise Lake, Tamdrok Tso, ever disappears, Tibet will come to an end. A Chinese hydel dam built in the mid-1990s drastically altered the landscape hereabouts, but the lake survived and remains a superb sights, especially when the rippled mountain slopes rising from it sport a dusting of fresh snow. Jutting above the water on a narrow, raised peninsula, Samding Monastery affords magnificent panoramic views over the Dumo Plain and mountains to the south.
