City Walking Tours

Extension Tour

1 day tour

Explore the culture and history of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata on foot.

Delhi

The charm of Old Delhi’s people and their lifestyle is infinitely more than the city’s sandstone monuments. And, there is no better way exploring it than by walking through the lanes and by-lanes.

Starting with the Jama Masjid, the very heart of Old Delhi, our first stop will be the Haveli of Mirza Galib, the iconoclastic poet of the 19th century who wrote in Persian and Urdu. We continue through Ballimaran, stopping by the dispensary of a Unani-Tibia medicine practitioner. Next we stop at, what is arguably the best preserved, Haveli of Chuna Mal before walking down the famous Chandni Chowk. We continue through the jewellers lane of Dariba Kalan and wedding street of Kinari Bazaar. Our next stop will be the practitioner of the dying art of calligraphy. If we are lucky we may get a chance to interact with a group of eunuchs and get a peep into their esoteric world which is carefully hidden from the ‘outsiders’. Finally, we will end the tour in the company of a kabootarbaaz (pigeon flier) from whom we may try and learn the art of pigeon flying.
