Visit Nepal Year 2011

Nepal Tourism Year 2011 (NTY-2011) was formally launched at a special programme on February 26, 2010 amidst much fanfare with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar lighting a peace lamp that was taken from Lumbini to Kathmandu. In a very jubilant demonstration of solidarity, more than forty thousand people from various sectors assembled at the official launch.

Highlighting the importance of tourism to the national economy, Prime Minister Nepal said tourism can play a crucial role in moving the country into a new economic dimension. He also said tourism in Nepal can be taken to new heights by effectively promoting attractions such as Mt Everest, Lumbini, Pashupatinath, Janakpur and Biratnagar.

All political and social parties are fully backing Nepal Tourism Year and the government hopes to bring in at least one million international tourists to Nepal by the end of 2011 and spread the benefits of tourism across the country.
