On your first morning in Srinagar you'll have a half day tour of the city. Drive into the Old Town to explore its narrow lanes on foot with your guide: visit the 14th century Jama Masjid and the Shah Hamadan mosque that showcases exquisite wood carving. Also visit Noor Jehan’s delightful Mosque of the Slipper and the tomb of Zein-ud-Din, one of the best rulers Kashmir ever had.
In the afternoon take a leisurely two hour shikhara boat ride on the Dal Lake enjoying extravagant views of the surrounding snow dusted mountain ranges. As you glide on its placid waters laden with lily and lotus plants, you will visit floating flower and handicraft markets as well as the Char Chinar Island, a good spot for bird watching. Tea and biscuits will be served on board.
A high point of Mughal architecture and horticulture in India, the Persian styled Mughal Gardens are the highlight of any visit to Srinagar. On day three you'll visit the Shalimar Bagh, Chasmeshahi Bagh and Nishat Bagh with their beautiful terraced lawns, bright flower beds, cascading fountains and decorated marble pavilions that showcase the opulence of the rulers that built them in the 17th century AD.
