The Sun Temple and Tribals of Orissa - Tour Overview

Orissa has an abundance of perfectly conceived temples built in the high Kalinga style, an unrivalled peak of architectural expression, including the Sun Temple at Konark, a World Heritage Site, and the Jagannath in Puri - the massive stone chariots of the temple giving us the word "juggernaut". 

It also has many tribes, who are still largely forest dwellers and follow their traditional ways of living. During weekly markets, the tribals, dressed in their particular costumes and jewellery, come to sell their produce. This rewarding trip involves long but fascinating drives and accommodation in basic hotels in the tribal regions. 

We also take in the absorbing character and historical monuments of Calcutta, now Kolkata and end at Hyderabad, with its fascinating monuments, the Salar Jung Museum, and famous cuisine.
