Introduction - Uzbekistan: A Journey of Discovery

Join TransIndus founder-director, Amrit Singh, for a journey of discovery to the Silk Road cities of Uzbekistan.

"I am relishing the prospect of finally experiencing Uzbekistan for myself and gazing upon the forerunners of India’s great Mughal tombs; as well pursuing my passion for exotic textiles, carpets and ceramics. I look forward to attending a traditional Uzbek dance and music performance and sampling the region's finest local cuisine in some the great places that I have heard so much about.

This is a part of the world I’ve longed to visit since we set up TransIndus 28 years ago. Apart from having deep cultural connections with India, where my family originated, it also offers a perfect mix of splendid historic monuments, fascinating local culture and wonderful desert scenery. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing the Registan in Samarkand – surely one of the world’s greatest architectural treasures – and to visiting the silk workshops in the remote Fergana Valley.

With all the travel practicalities taken care of by my local team, we will be free to enjoy the sights of this Central Asian gem. Accommodation is in comfortable, western-style hotels, and most meals are included with plenty of opportunities to venture off piste and eat in recommended local restaurants if we wish. We will have a dedicated, English-speaking Uzbek local representative who will travel with us, plus fully-qualified guides at key monuments who will help bring the historical context of these extraordinary buildings to life."
