Kyaiktiyo, Myanmar
This is by far the most comfortable option on the summit of sacred Mount Kyaiktiyo, and the perfect launch pad for sunrise and sunset visits to the famous Golden Rock. Its rooms are simply furnished, but clean and well maintained, while the staff are unfailingly courteous and cheerful – quite an achievement given the remoteness of the location. Mist permitting, the views over the valley are stupendous. This is also a great spot for people watching: settle on to the terrace for a sundowner as pilgrims file up the walkway to the pagoda entrance, only 70m away.
