Anamaduwa, Colombo & the West Coast, Sri Lanka

The Mudhouse offers a range of rustic accommodation in private, individually designed huts providing a secluded retreat in the heart of the Sri Lankan forest. If you enjoy being immersed in nature, you’ll love the experience of staying here. The location, miles off the regular tourist routes in the ‘dry zone’ of the northwest, is magical.

Expect to be woken by a dawn chorus of frogs, peacock calls and mongooses scurrying around the verandas. Facilities are rustic – you sleep in simple, traditional, mud-walled structures without air-con, and make do with parrafin lamps and candles after dark – but are impeccably well maintained and more than adequate for a short, two-night stay.

Meals are prepared using produce from the property’s own organic farm and guests are encouraged to join in and discover to secrets of Sri Lankan cuisine from the resident chefs. In keeping with the eco-conscious ethos, waste is kept to a minimum.

Enjoy a two-night stay at The Mudhouse on our 15-day In search of Sri Lanka's Big Five tour.
