The Mudhouse, Anamaduwa
Anamaduwa, Sri Lanka
Get back to nature with a stay in The Mudhouse, a forest lodge deep in Sri Lanka's northwest. Accommodation is in the form of thatched huts, scattered amongst the lakes and trees.
The Mudhouse has a wealth of activities so that you can experience this remote part of Sri Lanka, There are two lakes that can be used for kayaking. The birdlife is abundant with over 100 recorded species. Explore the numerous nature trails where you may be fortunate to see deer, slender loris and giant squirrels. A short cycle ride away is Paramakanda Temple. Steeped in myths and legends it dates back to 77 BC. A climb up a stone staircase to the top of the rock is well worth it for the 360 degree views.
Traditional Sri Lankan meals using seasonal produce are served from clay pots although the setting of the Mudhouse lends itself to taking a picnic by the lake.
There isn't any mains power in the guest areas so The Mudhouse is for people looking for a digital detox off the beaten track.
