Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India

The Art Deco hunting lodge of the Maharaja of Jaipur provides a luxurious base for forays into the nearby tiger reserve. It’s not grand by the standards of Taj Group, but retains plenty of 1930s charm, with many of the original fixtures and furnishings intact. Both rooms and suites are spacious.

The ‘Premium Allure’ category have private courtyard gardens where bonfires are lit in the evenings. There’s a lovely communal pool in the rear garden, a well-equipped fitness centre and Jiva spa. And for those not lucky enough to have seen a big cat in the adjacent forest, the Tiger Bar has plenty of stuffed ones grinning from the walls.

Our opinion

This first class hotel offers a signature Taj experience in Ranthambore: good food, comfortable rooms and great service.
