Landscape & nature holidays with TransIndus
Towns and cities frequently dominate tour itineraries, but they don’t have to. Holidays may also be designed around the signature landscapes of a particular country or region.
Modern transport connections allow us to sample an amazing array of different locations in the span of a typical two- or three-week trip. A good example is China. The Chinese are avid connoisseurs of their national landscapes, and an infrastructure of great complexity and ambition has been put in place to enable people to experience the most iconic of them with ease.
Tracking China’s border with Nepal and India, the Himalayas are rich with possibilities for landscape tourism. One of our most adventurous trips follows the Friendship Highway from Lhasa, capital of Tibet, to Kathmandu in Nepal, with a detour to Rongbuk for a close encounter with Everest. Another is the two-day drive over the Himalayas from India’s Kullu Valley to Leh, in Ladakh – one of the world’s most dramatic road trips.
You don’t, however, have to be on the move to enjoy Asia’s most wonderful scenery. The past decade has seen the appearance of many beautifully sited hotels from which you can savour stupendous views in optimal comfort. The Shakti Lodge chain in India and Songtsam Circuit in the far north of Yunnan, China, are two outstanding examples.
