This imposing hotel in the centre of Mary ranks among the ritziest in the country, with a polished marble lobby (in what might be described as 'Turkmen-Baroque' style), gilded lifts and quality beds in the rooms - quite a contrast from the dust of the surrounding desert and archeological sites. Standards of service aren't what they are in the region's capitals, but the staff are genial and atmosphere welcoming.
