Tours to Kandy

Kandy is know to many Sri Lankans as Maha Nuwara, 'The Great City', and is the cultural and spiritual centre of the country. Located in the central highlands around a picturesque lake, Kandy is Sri Lanka's second largest city and home to its most important religious site, the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

The temple is believed to house a tooth from Lord Buddha, rescued from his funeral pyre and brought to Sri Lanka in the 4th century AD, hidden in the hair of an Indian princess fleeing her father's besieged kingdom in India. The site is also at the centre of the spectacular Esala Perahera, a ten-day religious festival full with decorated elephants, dancers and musicians.
