Andaman & Nicobr Islands
The 700 plus islands that make up The Andaman & Nicobar archipelago lie 1,000 miles off the east coast of India, closer to Myanmar despite being a part of India's sovereign territory. Hidden between the azure waters of the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, just a dozen or so of the islands are accessible to visitors. The rest remain off-limits and firmly protected to preserve the delicate eco-systems that support the neighbouring indigenous tribes.
The effort required to get to the islands is richly rewarded, with miles of picture-perfect beaches encircled by primeval forests with opportunities to snorkel among some of the world’s most amazing coral reefs, hike through remote jungles, kayak among mangroves and visit small sleepy villages. The Islands have even begun to develop a reputation for surfing with some superb reefs creating excitement amongst the surf community.
The Islands have never been more accessible with connecting flights from Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad to the entry point of Post Blair and onward catamaran connections. Visitors can now visit these incredible beaches as an extension no matter which part of India has been explored in the preceding weeks.
Our ever-growing list of favourite hotels now includes the bohemian Barefoot Island Resort, the independently boutique Jalakara Resort, and the uber-luxurious Taj Andaman Resort.
Best time to visit the Andaman Islands: October to April
