This tour introduces you to the culture of Myanmar, taking in the most popular and spectacular sights this beautiful country has to offer.

Beginning in Yangon you visit the majestic Shwedagon Pagoda then travel up to Bagan and its thousands of stupas and pagodas. Continue on to Mandalay and the ancient capital cities of Inwa (Ava), Amarapura and Sagaing ending at the vast Inle Lake.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1
UK

Fly to Yangon via Bangkok.

Day 2
Yangon

Arrive in Yangon and transfer to the first class Belmond Governor’s Residence for two nights. In the evening enjoy a walk through Chinatown and the fascinating Bogyoke Aung San Market.

Day 3
Yangon

Tour the city including the gilded Sule Pagoda, the National Museum and the giant reclining Buddha at Kyaukhtatyi. You also visit the serene Kandawgyi Lake and the awe-inspiring Shwedagon Pagoda.

Day 4
Bagan

Fly to Bagan and check in to the first class Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort, Bagan, on the banks of the Ayeyarwaddy for two nights. Spend the morning visiting the Shwezigon, Htilominlo and Ananda Pagodas. After lunch explore a lacquer workshop in Myinkaba village, followed by a visit to the Gubyaukgyi Pagoda famous for its ancient mural paintings.

Day 5
Bagan

Early morning balloon ride over Bagan: For the ultimate views, a balloon flight at dawn is the way to go. Continue to explore Bagan this afternoon.

Day 6
Mandalay

Take an early flight to Mandalay the centre of Burmese culture. After checking in to the first class Hotel By The Red Canal, Mandalay for two nights, you enjoy a visit to the Golden Palace, the Kuthodaw Pagoda and the revered Mahamuni Pagoda to see the bronze image of Buddha covered in thick gold. In the afternoon enjoy a visit by pony cart to the former capital of Ava, including the Nanmyint ‘Leaning’ watchtower and the Bagaya Monastery.

Day 7
Mandalay

Visit the Amarapura Monastery to witness monks going to breakfast, their only meal of the day. Visit U Bein’s teak bridge. Afterwards, take a boat ride on the Ayeyarwaddy to visit the unfinished pagoda at Mingun. Time permitting, continue to the Sagaing hills for a scenic sunset.

Day 8
Inle Lake

Fly to Heho in the morning and drive to Nyaung Shwe to take a boat to the picturesque Inle Lake and check in at the Inle Princess Resort, Inle Lake a first class traditional style property, for two nights.

Day 9
Inle Lake

Visit the unique leg rowers, the floating markets and the village life around this idyllic lake. Later see the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda and Nga Pe Pagoda, popularly known as the Jumping Cat Monastery, a wooden monastery built on stilts over the lake. Also, visit the ancient Kakku pagoda complex.

Day 10
Yangon

Time permitting, visit the Pindaya limestone caves, which have thousands of Buddha images collected over the ages before taking your flight to Yangon and check in at the Governor’s Residence for the night.

Day 11
Yangon, UK

Fly to Bangkok to board your return flight to the UK, arriving the same day.
