Experience this classic Vietnam itinerary, staying in first class properties along the way, including three from Victoria Hotels & Resorts. 

The tour starts in Vietnam's capital Hanoi before heading south to the former Imperial City Hue, and Hoi An, with its UNESCO protected Old Town. The journey continues on to Can Tho and a trip to the Mekong Delta, cruising through waterways, visiting villages and local markets.

The final destination is Ho Chi Minh City and the Cu Chi tunnels.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1
Hanoi

On arrival in Hanoi your guide will meet you and take you to the Silk Path Hotel where you'll be staying for the next two night.

Day 2
Hanoi

Today starts with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the imperial citadel. After a Vietnamese lunch you'll head to the Temple of Literature, built as a homage to the Chinese scholar Confucius, and the iconic Long Bien Bridge, contructed between 1899 and 1902 when Vietnam was still ruled by the French. Your tour of Hanoi continues with a cyclo tour through the bustling Old Quarter, a place where Hanoians buy everything from noodles to light fixtures to Buddha statues. End the day with a coffee in a cafe overlooking Hoan Kiem Lake.

Day 3
Hue

Take a morning flight from Hanoi to Hue, where you will be met and taken to the Hotel Saigon Morin for a two night stay. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 4
Hue

Spend the morning exploring the citadel and the Imperial City, before heading out of Hue and into the surrounding countryside to visit some impressive royal tombs and a cruise on the Perfume River.

Day 5
Hoi An

Leave Hue this morning and head south to the riverside town of Hoi An . The drive hugs the coastline along the North Pacific Ocean with breathtaking views particularly as the road winds its way up Hai Van Pass. Along the way you'll stop at the Cham Museum in the city of Danang. The Cham civilisation ruled central Vietnam from the 2nd - 13th centuries. In Hoi An you'll stay at the Victoria Beach Resort and Spa, Hoi An .

Day 6
Hoi An

Today is spent exploring Hoi An. The town is famous for its restored architecture, homemade silk, expert tailors and delicious noodles and seafood. Its relaxed vibe and pedestrian streets make this town a pleasure to walk around. This full day tour stops at several famous landmarks. The first is Chua Ong Pagoda, dating back to 1653 and built in honor of the Chinese general Quan Cong. Next, pop into Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, to see the Jinshang Temple which is dedicated to the goddess of the sea and the protector of sailors. From there it’s a short walk to Tam Ky House, a 200 year old ancestral house and finally, stroll across the often photographed 17th century covered bridge built by Japanese craftsmen. The beautifully built bridge doubles as a temple and is a major landmark of Hoi An.

Day 7
Can Tho

Take a flight to Ho Chi Minh City this morning and then on to the Mekong Delta at Ben Tre. Here you will board a small boat to start your sightseeing around the waterways of the Mekong Delta. Stop at a small homemade coconut processing plant to see how coconuts have been turned into oil, candy and woven mats that are later sold in the market. After the boat trip you will have a short walk to a local village to see mat weavers at work, before jumping on the deltas version of a tuk tuk and travelling down country roads to the pier. Here you will board the beautiful teak boat Le Jarai to continue your cruise along the river. While onboard join in a demonstration of Vietnamese cooking before sitting down to a sumptuous three-course lunch of Mekong specialities. Back at Can Tho will be be taken to the Victoria Can Tho , your accommodation for two nights.

Day 8
Can Tho

It’s an early start to the day as you go by boat to the daily floating market of Can Tho. Experience the flurry of vendors trading their wares as boats teeming with fruit, vegetables and household goods ply the waters. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 9
Ho Chi Minh City

Drive to Ho Chi Minh City today and the Liberty Central Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City . The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 10
Ho Chi Minh City

This morning you will take a trip to the Cu Chi tunnels by speedboat along the Saigon River. After a tour of the tunnels you will head to a cricket farm. Some Vietnamese consider crickets a delicacy, and local lore says that hungry soldiers ate them to beef up their nutrient-poor diets. At the farm you’ll see crickets in various stages of growth. You will also have a chance to sample crickets wrapped up in tasty spring rolls. Stop for a traditional Vietnamese lunch en route to Ho Chi Minh City, arriving mid afternoon. This afternoon there will be a tour of Ho Chi Minh City, beginning with the War Remnants Museum. Here your guide will tell the story of the city’s darkest and most tragic hours during the Vietnam War. The museum contains displays of military aircraft, weaponry and many photographs - some that are quite graphic in nature. Next up is a trip to the Reunification Palace, once a symbol of the South Vietnamese Government. It was here on 30 April 1975, that the war ended when a North Vietnamese Army tank crashed through its gates. See the war room, the banquet hall and the presidential office. Take a stroll down follow Dong Khoi Street, which figured prominently in Graham Greene’s famous novel, The Quiet American, as Rue Catinat. The walk ends at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House. From a bomb shelter to housing the parliamentary Lower House, the Opera House has had an interesting history. End your day with a speedboat trip along the city’s ancient canals where life carries on unchanged.
