Surabaya, Indonesia
Tailored mainly at visiting business execs, the Santika ticks all the boxes necessary for a comfortable, stress-free stay in Surabaya. It occupies a skyscraper, plum in the city centre, so most of the rooms enjoy expansive views over the metropolis. Everything, from the triple-glazed windows to the wide-screen TVs and smart bathroom furniture, is polished and impeccable. The bedding is luxurious and staff brisk and efficient. The hotel wouldn’t win any prizes for character, admittedly, but it does the basics brilliantly: the rooms are cool havens after a busy day on the road, the in-house restaurant serves fabulous Indonesian cuisine, while the café in the lobby does a lighter, more international menu.
