Penang, Malaysia and Borneo
Transformed from 15 clustered pre-war terraces and shop houses the Hotel Penaga is now a lovely heritage boutique in the heart of Georgetown. Owned by an architect and an environmentalist, the property exudes a certain uniqueness and tranquility associated with such professions. Home to an artist in residence program, rooms are individually decorated and there is at least one original design from an emerging artist per room.
Novel natural history prints and maps of Penang also dot the property. Second and third floor rooms have balconies and the three cornered Penaga suites have two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a lounge area making them ideal choices for families. After a day of exploring Penang’s many sites, you can cool off in the salt water lap pool in the native plant garden, enjoy a dip in the medium sized swimming pool and then have a Jacuzzi bath in your room before hitting the hay!
