Kanha National Park, North & Central India, India
Only fifteen minutes’ drive from the park gates, Chitvan is situated close to Kanha’s buffer zone. It’s one of the area’s larger, and more modern-looking safari complexes, but the exceptional staff – recruited almost exclusively from neighbouring villages – ensure a personal service and attention to detail you’d normally associate with much smaller lodges. Some lead guided walks in the adjoining forest should you wish to skip a safari, and there’s a lovely kidney-shaped pool to relax by when the heat builds.
The rooms are spacious and elegantly furnished, with high ceilings, huge bathrooms and plenty of outside space from where you can enjoy the woodland views. Water is re-cycled; food comes from the kitchen garden; and every effort is taken to conserve energy.
Our opinion
Modern jungle accommodation with standard grade facilities.
