Mumbai, West India, India
Only a couple of blocks away from the Taj and Gateway of India, Gordon House is a small hotel that’s big on style. It offers medium-sized rooms in a choice of three themes – ‘Mediterranean’, ‘Country’ or ‘Scandinavian’; white walls and warm-toned woods are common to all.
The vibe’s informal, though the staff are courteous and helpful. Handily situated on the ground floor is All Stir Fry, a buzzy pan-Asian diner where you pick what you want from the counter and watch the chefs wok-fry it in an open kitchen. This is a relaxed midscale option that’s perfectly placed for trips across the harbour to Elephanta Island and grand Raj-era piles of south Mumbai.
Our opinion
A quality three star hotel high on style within walking distance of the Gateway of India and the bustling Colaba Causeway.
