A journey to the highlights of Laos: Luang Prabang, Vientiane, an unforgettable cruise on the ‘Vat Phou’ down the Mekong where you get to see the Vat Phou temple, a precursor of the Angkor temples, and a chance to spot the rare freshwater Irrawaddy dolphins. You then continue on to Cambodia to see the magnificent Angkor temples.

UK

Fly to Luang Prabang via Bangkok.

Luang Prabang

Arrive in Luang Prabang and stay at the 3 Nagas, Luang Prabang or Santi Resort, Luang Prabang standard grade boutique hotels, for three nights. Explore the town including its many pagodas and the National Museum – formerly the Royal Palace.

Luang Prabang

Visit the local market and walk through the town to see the beautiful French colonial buildings. View the town and its surroundings atop Mount Phousi at sunset.

Luang Prabang

Enjoy a visit to the Pak Ou caves, located in the limestone cliffs at the confluence of the Mekong and Ou rivers. These caves are full of Buddha images of various styles and sizes collected over centuries.

Vientiane

Fly to Vientiane, capital of Laos, and check in at the first class Settha Palace, Vientiane for two nights.

Enjoy a visit to Patuxai; Wat That Luang; Wat Si Muang; Haw Pha Kaew – once the royal temple of the Lao monarchy and now converted into a museum; Wat Si Saket, the oldest monastery in Laos; and Talaat Sao market.

Pakse

Early morning fly to Pakse and stay at the tourist grade Pakse Hotel, Pakse for the night. Enjoy an excursion to the Boloven Plateau.

Vat Phou Cruise

In the morning you take a long tail boat to Champasak for lunch and a tour of the pre Angkorian Vat Phou temple. Board the Vat Phou boat for a relaxing cruise downriver for two nights. Your cruise is a 34-metre converted steel hull barge and has 12 air-conditioned en-suite cabins, a large front deck with a wide-open area for relaxation and a lower deck with an air-conditioned restaurant.

Vat Phou Cruise

Enjoy watching river life, villages and fishermen and stops at Oum Muong to visit an ancient Khmer sanctuary hidden in the tropical forest. Continue the cruise to the area of '4,000 Islands' and visit a traditional island village.

Pakse

Cruise around the waters of the ‘4,000 Islands’ and take a small longtail boat to Khone Island, which might allow you a glimpse of the rare Irrawaddy freshwater dolphins. Back to the mainland for lunch followed by a trip by road to the spectacular roaring falls of Khone Phapheng. Return to Pakse in the afternoon. Stay at the tourist grade Residence Sisouk for the night.

Siem Reap

Fly to Siem Reap in the morning and check in at the Victoria hotel, a first class boutique property, for three nights. Visit Angkor Thom and Bayon temples and enjoy a sunset view of the spectacular Angkor temples.

Visit the Angkor Wat temples followed by a visit to the exquisitely carved Bantaey Sri temple and the jungle temple of Ta Phrom.
