Transiting trekkers and climbers form the mainstay of the Yak and Yeti, one of the capital’s largest hotels. It’s classed as a five-star, but looks a more modest place once you’ve penetrated the rather grand, multi-storey façade.

It’s a deservedly popular choice, however – central, well maintained and with a good sized pool in the garden, as well as the usual fitness centre, spa and Jacuzzi.
