Mysore, South India, India

The Maharaja of Mysore built this enormous whitewashed palace on a hill, overlooking the outskirts of the capital, to accommodate his most illustrious guest: the British Viceroy. It’s fronted by a grand, double-storeyed façade of Corinthian columns surmounted by a central dome
said to have been inspired by St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The interiors are no less opulent, with lashings of ornamental plasterwork and
chintzy furnishings. Everything’s beautifully kept and full of period atmosphere, down to the huge oval pool in the rear garden.
