Suggested itinerary

Day 1

Depart Bangkok and settle into your private cabin as the scenery changes from city to countryside. Dinner is served in one of the luxurious dining cars. Retire to your cabin, which has been transformed into a cosy bedroom.

Day 2
River Kwai Bridge

After breakfast, the train arrives at the River Kwai Bridge Station. Alight here for a cruise along the picturesque Kwai Yai River, while a local historian provides a brief history of the Thailand-Burma railway and the bridge. Take a coach to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, with time to visit the Don Rak War Cemetery. Rejoin the coach and head back to Kanchanaburi Railway Station, where your journey continues. Reflect on the day's sights over dinner and relax with a drink in the Bar Car before retiring for the night.

At the mainland station, disembark for the crossing to Penang. Enjoy a guided tour of colonial Georgetown, with its pre-World War II mosques, temples, churches, bazaars and shophouses. Board the coach for your short crossing ride back. Spend the afternoon watching the changing scenery from the open deck of the Observation Car or relax in the Bar Car. Dinner is served on board.
