Tokyo, Honshu, Japan

The majestic red-brick station building, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, has been a capital landmark for over a century. In 2006, it was completely restored and now holds 150 sumptuous guest rooms in classic European style. With its cut-glass chandeliers, fish-eye enamel mirrors and extravagantly upholstered headboards, the interiors are Taisho era meets fin-de-siècle Paris – but featuring all the sleekness, comfort and amenities you’d expect from a modern five star. At the heart of the Marunouchi business district, the location is very handy for Tokyo’s main rail hub, too – a convenient and historic base for shopping and city sightseeing.
