For those wanting to experience Japan's stunning natural beauty as well as spend some time away from the 'golden routes'. After a brief stop soaking up the excitement of Tokyo you travel out towards the Japanese Alps, via the castle city of Matsumoto.
Mountain lovers will bask in the glorious scenery around Kamikochi and Takayama, before taking in the culture of Kyoto. From there you travel off the beaten track to the beautiful Kii Peninsula, and walk an ancient pilgrimage route.

With a guide, walk along the Kumano Kodo, an ancient pilgrimage culminating at the revered Hongu shrine. Stay in a traditional inn.
Take a traditional raft down the stunning Kumano River. Explore the Hayatama Shrine and the Nachi Shrine. Stay in simple temple lodging.
Enjoy a tour of the area. Afterwards take the express train to Osaka.
